You can not sit there. It is reserved for Ladies!!!!!

You enter a bus seemingly empty! But remember empty only on the right hand side front seats and yet few men standing. Some ladies sitting on the left side and chatting away to glory! Just then a gentleman walks in and sits on the seat on the right as it was empty and well to his surprise he is confronted by the Pune Municipal Transport (PMT) checkers who claim that the gentleman is guilty of sitting on the Ladies reserved seat, although it was empty, although there lady passengers in the bus who could have occupied those seats vacating the "Non -Reserved" ones for the men standing in the queue. But "NO" neither the authorities understand the ground reality while making the "Reservation" rule nor do the people who take advantage try to understand it.

The reservation for women in the bus was one of the funniest rules I have seen being made in y life. Going by this rate please do not be surprised if you end up at a "Govt. Controlled Store" need a life saving drug, have 3 counters two with 10 people waiting in each and the 3rd absolutely empty coz it is reserved for some people may be "Officers" or may be "Ladies" or may be "Backward Class". What would you do but to curse yourself being in a country who is still reeling in the realm of "Reservations!!!" right from house of representatives to the bus sitting arrangement!! All have reservation of some or the other type.

Dear Sister, Nice you brought up these thing, I have traveled by the bus service for almost 3-4 years for my school and college life. So I am aware of the problems you just mentioned. I am not a MCP or anything of that sort but hate the sectarian rules and principles that divide the society in to any sections (forward/backward, majority/minority, male/females). When commuting in the bus I feel the old people have the first right to have a seat, but well do all the old people talk descent to the younger generation and request to get up? NO! rather they command! I agree that it is the responsibility of the young ones to respect the seniors but how about it being reciprocated? Any thoughts? Lets go a little further on the antiquates' front. HOW MANY LADIES GET UP FROM THEIR SEAT WHEN THEY SEE A WOUNDED MAN ENTERING THE BUS? They expect the male passengers to show the courtesy... forget about an injured man how many of them even bother to even look at another lady carrying a baby in her womb, forget about giving her the seat? Well it is normally the gents who do get up. Also you mentioned about men folks pushing and touching the ladies, well I would like to make a small comment here. Guys will not mess around with a "descent", "Self Behaved" lady. Unless there is some kind of lift from the female counter part guys won't act. And just to mention some of "the lifts" from the girls, Skin tight T-Shirts and Skin tight jeans. Behaving a lot more freely with your friends in the Bus as if you trying to attract the entire bus towards you, constantly looking at the guys and trying to send across wrong messages, commenting amongst their friends about other fellow passengers, but loud enough to be audible to the entire bus. How would you justify such behavior of our (young) female passengers? I hope you do not try to justify it...

I do not deny the problems. But fail to understand the rule that prohibits the male passengers from occupying the empty seats just because they are reserved for ladies and that too when the bus is devoid of lady passengers and the rest of the seats are occupied! I would like to mention that this is not the only example of reservation that I am talking about, what would you say about reservation in schooling system? We are dividing the kids in Reserved category and open category! How good is that to my country INDIA? If that was not enough, we end up dividing the country in to some crazy sectors like Majorities and Minorities. I have lived two types of life myself. One in the Army Campus and second in the City of Pune as a civilian. I see a big divide. Army campus life was an typical Indian life respect every religion and in turn get it back. Where as the other half has been more disturbing and restrictive. During my childhood I never knew if I was a Brahmin or anything else. Well one thing I knew was I am an Indian and All Indians are my brothers and sisters. (Thanks to my school! The KVs). I feel we are dividing our country by such laws and are only creating hatred in our own people which I will oppose with LOUD VOICE!!

May be my article sounded more over anti-Female front but my concerns are more grave than just that one incident. and my views are made over past many years and ot over this one incident.

Dude you really have issues! I have seen more women give up their seats for the wounded, old and the sorts than men. And tight T shirts and jeans provoke you? Really? Wonder what would it be like for you on the beaches!

Hi suchitradaemon don't you think that you are arguing on senseless topic. N about the pmt seats just now I got a bad experience. A leady around 26 asked to get up an elderly man as he was steating on reserved seat. I was travelling from wagholi to nigdi. So would like to let you know that as Rudrda mentioned when it come to vacent the seat men will always show the decency.

If it's senseless topic I don't know what you're doing here arguing about the same. Are you into senseless topics or just contradicting yourself!

About your last sentence, umm not sure about that! Not you nor me can guarantee if a 'person' would be decent. Be it men or women. So don't gimme the 'always' part. Not all men are good and same goes for women. Targeting all the people of a category based on one off observation is never right. Hope you stood up for the old man in the bus. If not, you should next time instead of just whining here.
